Columbus Looking for Land

Columbus Looking for Land
Columbus looking for land on
definitive issue of 1905-1918

The first Europeans to visit St. Kitts were Spaniards led by Christopher Columbus who arrived in 1493. A variety of definitive stamps issued for use in St. Kitts-Nevis between 1903 and 1948 feature a picture of Columbus searching for land, apparently using a telescope. As Andrew Oliver has noted, this is an anachronism as the telescope was invneted until more than a century later.
