Medieval Scholars of the Maghreb
Three stamps honouring three medieval scholars from the Maghreb or Berber world in northwest
Africa: geographer Al-Idrissi, explorer Ibn Batota and historian and sociologist Ibn Khaldoun.
On May 7, 1963 Morocco issued three stamps honouring three medieval scholars from the Maghreb or Berber world in northwest Africa. The subjects of three twenty centime stamps were geographer Al-Idrissi, explorer Ibn Battuta and historian and sociologist Ibn Khaldoun. On July 15, 1966 the Battuta (Batota) design was reissued as a forty centime denomination to mark the launch of a ferry service between Tangier and Malaga on the ferryboat Ibn Batota.
Working in the court of Norman King Roger II in Sicily, Al-Idrissi compiled the Tabula Rogeriana
a world map which inspired from explorers such as Ibn Battuta, Columbus and Vasco da Gama.

Ibn Battuta was also featured in North Korea's
