Zanzibar
Indian Definitive Issue of 1866 - 1868 Postmarked at the Indian Post Office in Zanzibar
East India definitve postmarked Zanzibar. (Note faded violet overprint/cancellation.)
According to George Krieger's article in The American Philatelist
of June 2000, the Indian Post Office in Zanzibar opened in November
1868 using Indian stamps. It closed on April 1, 1869 but was re
opened on October 1, 1875. On November 10, 1895, control was
transfered to British East Africa. Stamps of India overprinted
"Zanizibar" were used until Zanzibar issues were printed in 1896.
