1889 Overprint on Transvaal Issue

1889 Overprint on Transvaal Issue

Swaziland's first stamps were issued on October 18, 1889, five years after the territory had come under the joint "protection" of Britain and the South African Republic. The stamps were overprinted definitives of Transvaal. In 1902 the territory came under the exclusive jurisdiction of Transvaal whose stamps it had been using since 1894. In 1910 the stamps of South Africa were adopted and they continued in use until January 2, 1933 when once again separate issues for Swaziland came into use.
