Jamaica
Union Jack Design Error of 1919

Return of Jamaican Contingent Stamps
The wide margin in the diagonal cross in on the should have been
above the narrower margin, on the side of the flag next to the staff.

In 1919 Jamaica issued a commemorative pictorial set in which the 2 1/2 d. value illustrated the return of a Jamaican contingent from the Great War (1914-1919). The Union Jack on the left of the design was incorrectly drawn. The wide white margins of the diagonal cross should have been above the narrower margin, on the side of the flag next to the staff. In 1921 this issue was reprinted on Multiple Crown and Script CA paper and the flag was corrected.

Watermarks of 1919 and 1921
The 1919 issue (left) had a multiple crown and CA watermark while
the 1921 issue (right) had a multiple crown and script CA watermark.
