German Occupation Issue
Definitive stamp from the Soviet Union
overprinted "Pernau 8. VII 1941"

On June 16, 1940, the Soviet Union occupied Estonia and in August it became part of the Soviet Union. Estonia was overrun by German forces shortly after the invasion of the Soviet Union in June of 1941. Russian definitives overprinted "Pernau" were issued by the occupation forces. In November of 1941, German definitives overprinted "OSTLAND" were put into use in Estonia.
