Pictorial Definitives of 1914

The stamps reproduced above depict boats on the Nile, Cleopatra, Ras-el-Tin Palace, the Pyramids at Giza, the Sphinx, the Colossi of Thebes, the Pylon of Karnak and the Temple of Khonsu, the Citadel at Cairo, the Rock Temple of Abu Simbel and Aswan Dam.

On January 8, 1914 Egypt issued this set of 10 pictorial definitives with a star and crescent watermark. In 1921-1922 it was reissued with a triple crescent and star watermark and additional designs. In 1922 this latter issue was overprinted with a crown and an Arabic inscription "The Egyptian Kingdom, March 15, 1922" commemorating the proclamation of the Egyptian monarchy.

overprints commemorating the proclamation of the Egyptian monarchy.
