French Occupation Issue

Turkish Stamp Overprinted for French Military Occupation
This Turkish stamp overprinted by French military occupation
administration in Cilicia was issued in 1920.

Cilicia, which is on the Turkish coast opposite Cyprus, was occupied by British and French forces in 1918. Part of the territory was assigned to the French mandate in Syria but, by the Treaty of Laussaune in 1923, the territory reverted to Turkey.
