War Purposes Contribution Label

War Purposes Contribution Label

This "War Purposes Contribution" label was for voluntary donations to support the war effort. In this sense they are different from the compulsory "War Tax" stamps issued to support the war effort in the First World War. Five and ten cent denominations were produced in 1941. They were placed on the front of the envelope where they often received postal cancellations or sometimes on the back of envelopes as seals. The labels also exist with a red "V" for Victory overprint.
