Aland Last Day of Service Cover

Aland Last Day of Service Cover
This cover is franked with both Finnish and Aland Regional stamps on
the last day before Aland's autonomous postal service took control.

The Aland Islands are an autonomous Swedish speaking province of Finland. In 1984 it began issuing regional stamps under Finnish postal administration. Finnish stamps remained valid until December 31, 1992. On January 1, 1993 an autonomous postal administration took over postal services and Finnish stamps were no longer valid.

This cover marks the last day on which Finnish stamps were valid on the islands by bearing stamps from both postal administrations: the Finnish 70 penni Kauhaneva swamp definitive issued January 12, 1981 and the Aland 2.20 markka artifacts from a ship tumulus grave issue from February 1, 1989.
