Dawson City and the Yukon River

The Palace Grand Theatre opened in 1899. This replica, completed in 1962 is the home of the Gaslight Follies.

Yukon Hotel

Early the next day I got into Dawson City and pitched my tent in a great campsite beside the Yukon River within easy walking distance of the ferry into town. Dawson City was great. Although it was definitely a tourist town it didn't feel like a theme park. There seemed to be pride in the town and the history rather than pure commercial exploitation. I did the walking tour of the town and visited the gold fields. It was amazing to go from an evening show at the Gaslight Follies to the casino and then walking back to campsite around midnight in brilliant twilight.
